Thea at Porthmeor

Thea was booked onto a Tate St Ives Family workshop on Porthmeor Beach today. We all went along and hung around on the beach while she went off and learned about transferring images, which she put into practice on this t-shirt design. She was incredibly proud of it. Helen had asked me if I wanted to go as well, but was right when she supposed it might be a bit of a busman's holiday for me!

Instead, Eoin and I went and threw ourselves about in the crashing waves until we were so exhausted we could hardly walk.

Porthmeor Beach is lovely, but very crowded and not normally a beach we would choose in high season. However, it's right in front of Tate St Ives, so handy for a bit of culture should you so desire.

The covered building in the background is Porthmeor Studios, which are nearing the end of a huge renovation project. The studios are the home of the St Ives School of Painting and best known as the studio space of some of the most famous of the St Ives artists Including Ben Nicholson, Patrick Heron, Francis Bacon and Wilhelmina Barns Graham.

Each month during the renovation, a local photographer has uploaded a set of photos and it is wonderful to see the slow transformation take place.
