Particles & Waves

19th century Scottish walking stick

I got this old stick in The Grassmarket in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2004 and use it pretty much every day due to my lousy knees. Over the years I have found out a little bit about it. It is probably from a working class man. It is almost certainly blackthorn wood. Somebody said it was likely from around the 1880s. Somebody attending the Fergus Highland Games a few years ago was enthralled with it and said it hand-turned on a wood lathe and was given a Jacobian (or Jacobite) twist for the shaft. It is a lovely bit of woodwork. Very creative and distinctive. I'd love to know more about it.

If anyone has anything to add, I'm all ears.
