The Lighted Life

We Walked on Water

By 5pm my workday had already stretched 12 hours. Exhausted, confused and frustrated, I texted my nephew Nick who was also ready to call it a day. About 45 minutes later, our bicycles departed from my hotel in Santa Monica towards the beaches of Playa del Rey. The sky was grey and moody as were the people on the strand. Los Angelina's simply do not know how to function when there are clouds in the air.

We are two active cyclists, yet our ride was mostly one of leisure and ogling with occasional bursts of speed and determination. But this ride was not about conditioning. Rather, it was a celebration of two family members, a few decades apart, unexpectedly finding each other in a city of endless intrigue. We rode till the Venice Beach tourists travelled on and the sky cleared a bit so that we could witness the sun resting its head on the Earth's edge. By the end of the ride, we were giddy. And when we no longer could see the gold and pinks of its rays, we found a sports bar and pretended to watch an NFL football game whilst we really discussed our family and other matters deep in our hearts.

This business trip has indeed produced rewarding results but connecting with Nick has greatly enriched my heart. And, as we all know, it is the heart that matters most.

Please have a quick sprint to this upcoming weekend of bliss and blips and other things of happiness.
