Runswick Village

Arrived in Whitby on the North East Yorkshire coast after a early start and a longish train ride. A hike along the Cleveland Way began with a bracing walk into northerly winds. It was quite a relief to reach the shelter of Sandsend. After climbing on to the clifftop we enjoyed the most amazing cloudscapes and a huge variety of scenery, arable fields inland and high cliffs dropping away to the intense blue of the North Sea flecked with white horses and rainbows.

This shot is of Runswick Village reached by a golden sand beach where I had a chance for a paddle. A welcome cup of tea was enjoyed on the seafront before we headed off for the final stretch of our journey to Staithes. I last visited this quaint coastal village when I was eighteen, having completed the Lyke Wake Walk across the North Yorkshire Moors.
