Equinox Low Tide

The day started with a leisurely bimble around Staithes in the crystal clear morning sun. The plan for the day was then to take the bus back to Whitby and continue on the Cleveland Way to Robin's Hood Bay. The tide was well out revealing an incredibly intersting coastline full of industrial archaelogy which will warrant some internet research and a return visit in the future. The geological features were equally fascinating.

This was a deservedly popular part of the coast path, with views in all directions quite spectacular. The 6 miles south from Whitby today felt as long as the 12 miles north yesterday. I wonder why? ! Nonetheless, after lots of ups and downs we descended into the picturesque village of Robin Hood's Bay in plenty of time for a cream tea before catching the bus back to Whitby.

We were feeling very pleased with ourselves for despite Earthdreamer's propensity for leaving everything to the last minute (often involving a run to make a bus or train), we had plenty of time to spare. Unfortunately, we still managed to not catch the train because it was cancelled. For a while we thought we might not make it back tonight, but customer service has taken good care of us, even shouting us a taxi for the final leg to Ilkley, having missed the connection for the last train home.
