Seals
I had planned to get up early to go for a run, but we three all slept too late. I didn’t wake up until nearly 9am, and the boys were still fast asleep. Needless to say, I didn’t run. After breakfast we headed south to Lagg. We parked up and headed down to the beach. Apart from two people walking their dog, we had it all to ourselves. We walked to the end of the beach, and would have walked further, except it was just too wet and muddy and we didn’t have our boots on. There is a definite theme of muddy walks – which must be an indication of lots of rain in recent times. We walked back, taking a detour to the Kilmory Hall, where a new café has opened. We sat in the sunshine and enjoyed our lunch. BB’s highlight was a Nutella muffin.
We continued our drive round the island, with Kildonan being our next stopping point. We parked up and went for a walk along the coast to look for seals. We had fabulous views out to Pladda and Ailsa Craig, and there were lots of seals basking on the igneous dykes and the rocks. Again we had the beach to ourselves (apart from the seals) as we met no one.
We continued driving round the island through Whiting Bay, Lamlash and Brodick till we reached home. D and L were organising a barbeque for tea, so TT and I went for a wee walk to Sannox Beach, along the rocks and then back round by the stepping stones.
We enjoyed a lovely barbie, though we were soon driven indoors by the midgies which were fierce.
Here are some seals basking in the sunshine at Kildonan. I didn't want to get too close, so it's not a brilliant photo.
