We went west......

Big day we have had, and such a thoroughly enjoyable one too. Travelled 450 km way out the back of Townsville to go to The Burdekin Falls dam and Ravenswood a tiny town of 100 people. On the road and before we turned off to the dam, we got behind a road train, in Ozzie terms a huge truck with four trailers. Total length 55 metres. We had to wait for a long stretch to pass , and for the size he was hoofing it along not too bad. Also saw many kangaroos, some hopping across the road in front of us. Some aren't so lucky as there are many carcasses at the road sides after being hit by vehicles.

I don't as a rule do collages but there was just too many photos that I loved today, so have eliminated them down to six.

From top clockwise

.....I just can't resist horses and seeing them in this light was a "must photograph"
.....Burdekin Falls dam & Lake Dalrymple ( built 1984, 876 metres long, supplies backup water to Townsville and irrigation) in the wet season the water spills over at scary rate
.....only saw the very occasional car, this stretch was 5 kilometres long
.....the Imperial Hotel, Ravenswood (gold mining town, in its heyday 1886 population over 4,000, and 50 pubs ...today about 100 pop and two pubs. A big gold mining outfit still works 24/7 today. This hotel built in 1902. We had lunch outside under the verandah. A very impressive building.
......I liked the sky and the view to the lake just because
......the Ozzie cows (again) but loved the tree and the "outback" feel it gave

Probably too much information, sorry.....You will see better in large

You all loved my kookaburra yesterday, many thanks for all those goodies received.

Doug & I are heading to the hills tomorrow for an overnighter.....Hidden Valley ...will catch up later in the week.....oh and we go home later in the week too, happy but sad to leave.

Too roo for now

Rainie
