Cold War Warriors

Backblip #1
Our trip to the West Coast was delayed a day yesterday when we decided to help Annies brother to move into his new house in Tayport. Today before we set off Annie arranged with a pal of hers, who works at RAF Luechers to get me onto the base for an hour or so while the preperations for the weekends airshow were being carried out.
I spottted these two Grand Dames up the end of the taxiway.
As the Cold War reached its frostiest depths in the 1960s the development of long range aircraft allowed the Soviets regular incursion into British air space. Initially this was countered by the use of the Lightning (left) and, from 1969, Phantom (right) aircraft.
Sadly though neither aircraft is in flying condition, both stole the pre-show show for me.
