North River

Crossing the bridge over the North River, on my way back to the community centre after an afternoon workshop with Donna Morrissey. What an interesting workshop, and given that i have no aspirations to become a writer, i just love exploring the written word and getting an insight into how writers do their work. It's so intense, and such hard work....and like any craft there are tools you have to learn. So this afternoon Donna tried to get us to understand the role setting plays in a novel! We all have to write a few paragraphs on different topics...then read them aloud to the class! pretty intimidating, given my absolute terror when i was at school of doing such a thing! I felt pretty proud of myself for being able to not only try and write a paragraph expressing setting, but that i also read it aloud....felt good actually! it wasn't too bad either, so said the teacher, and she doesn't mince her words!

dreary and damp out there this evening, dinner to be made!
