The Husky Homestead

Back blip

We we allocated a trip within Denali National Park this morning, but it was at “silly o’clock”, so we decided to book an alternative trip to the Husky Homestead, just a few miles away (which left at 8.30)

Well it was a superb experience. We saw the youngest puppies and had a chance to hold them, followed by talks out doors and indoors about dog sledding and all the associated activities.  Lots of oooh's and aaah's as we were introduced to the dogs and watched them train.

The owner is Jeff King, champion musher, who became a 4 times Iditarod champion when he crossed the line in 2006. We met the gentleman and heard about his experiences on this 1,000-mile dog sled race from Anchorage to Nome.

Back to the Lodge and a peek into a shop across the road that had a big sign outside saying “Fabric”. Well, I bought a load of material to make a single quilt. They are autumn colours and representative of Alaskan scenery and animals.

We collected our packed lunch and got on the coach heading for McKinley Lodge.

A wander round when we arrived to see what’s on offer, dinner and then a comfortable bed for the night.
