Otter fishing

This was our last walk along the beach and yet another otter encounter. This was otter number 5 and the first time I had my big lens with me. Hand held, it's not the best shot ever, but the best I got of our fishy friend. Even the gulls seemed very interested in him.

We watched from the shore and followed him along to the raised beach, where he slipped further out to sea and encountered a second otter. I wonder if it was a sibling of his? The number of otters here seem to be much greater than previous years, but perhaps the calm sea just makes them so much more obvious. Whatever the reason, we have been very lucky with the weather and our unexpected otter watch.

Ally was working hard while we walked, as he readied the boat engine for winter. When we returned from the walk, all that remained was to lift the engine into Claudette and transport it to the house.

We said a fond farewell to Sally and her minders and Y and Chrissie, then headed back to the house for a wonderful curry and some bubbly. We seemed to enjoy a lighthearted evening.............not that the fizz had anything to do with it :-s
