After the storm, the calm
The boys annual outing to Newcastle - and this year we’ve tickets for a plum fixture. Oh yes - for Arsenal, currently enduring a lamentable run of losses away from home, have come visiting. Could this be the moment when Newcastle halt the run of ten straight defeats at the hands of the crack North London outfit? Is Wenger past his sell by? Indeed. Talking points aplenty.
A couple (ahem) of beers in the Bridge and then on to the game - F and I in the Platinum Club (a padded seat it would appear), the rest in the cheap seats. What an atmosphere. Arsenal took the lead and seemed to be bossing it but slowly came unstuck; they seemed to have no response when the magpies upped the tempo and aggression. Brittle. After Pérez netted an equaliser, our favourite, Matt Richie scored the deserved winner.
We spilled out into the unseasonable sunshine and made our way, as tradition demanded, to the Crown Posada and thence to the Centurion.
All that - and yet I still managed to buy a sumptuous repas at Waverley. What a guy! Ahem, again.
