Franz Joseph

Woke to sun, and rain, and more rain. But fortunately as we drove north it slowed, then stopped, just in time for a walk up to another Glacier. This time Franz Josesph. Around 45 minutes each way and luckily the weather cleared for a view almost up to the neve (head of the glacier) around 10 km up the valet. Like all the glaciers here, Franz is receding, but that's been going on for hundreds of years.

Good walk then back to the camper and the next decision, Okarito? That decision was made by the forecast, road snowfall warning for Porters Pass, and not wanting s repeat of my nightmare crossing several weeks ago, we decided to bolt. Driving a 3.5 tonne camper in a snowstorm isn't my idea of a good time. So back across the passes we went, stopping in the Springfield domain for the night. Our last night, back to reality tomorrow ...
