Englishman in the Balkans

Summer Weather Craziness

One minute we are sitting outside in brilliant sunshine, blue skies, 30C.

Then, in almost a heartbeat, the temperature drops, clouds appear increasing in darkness, wind starts to blow.

Weird.

I hear a few, what sounds like explosions.

Tamara's father tells me that they are meteorological rockets, designed to break up layers of ice at high altitude.

But it's June for goodness sakes.

Ice? Seriously?

Then, almost on command, lightning flashes, thunder rumbles, the wind gets stronger and rain just cascades down.

An experience. Only topped by the start of hail stones.

This "freak" storm lasts about 40 minutes.

We are now back to a state of "mugginess".

At least our plants, fruit and veggies have had a most welcome extra drink.

Life in the summer, in the Western Balkans!
