Englishman in the Balkans

Late Lunch

At various times of the year, Tamara's parents invite a handful of friends and former work colleagues for "lunch".

Normally these invites are at times in the year when it's possible to eat "Al Fresco".

Yesterday (Wednesday), was one of those occasions.

The menu for about 17 people was based around spit roast lamb.

Together with a variety of home prepared salads, a veritable feast for a King.

I was asked to prepare a few serving plates of traditional cucumber sandwiches (in triangles, crust cut off). Cucumber sandwiches are not normally seen on Balkan Tables I have to say.

The lamb was ordered over a week ago and was prepared, cooked and served by Tamara's father, Predrag, who, one has to say, is a master roaster (is there such a thing?).

Due to the extremely hot weather, lunch didn't start till just before 1700.

A fun day. The type of day that's makes me realise how lucky I am to be living where I do.

The image with this post is of Marko, (one of our cats) enjoying licking the lamb juices from the "spit pole'.

Here's a short video that might complement my words above.
