Centennial Mill Site -- Portland Oregon

Today the weather cleared a bit. I had an appointment downtown, and it was good to get out of the house. While I was on the 6th floor of another building, I had the fortune to get a great view of the historic Centennial Mill site (formerly Crown Mill), a 4.75 acre site along the west bank of the Willamette River, in Portland Oregon. It was always an industrial area, and the site gives us a fascinating glimpse into the past...where Portland lead the US in the milling and production of grain and grain products.

The first building on the far left, was built in 1910 and was called the Flouring Mill...it is some 7 stories high and is built post and beam. These beams are huge....and clear fir...something you will not see today!

The second building is the Feed Mill (Starch Plant) and it was built in 1928. there are a total of 11 buildings on the site which are all connected, and were built between 1910-1940. The plant closed in 2000, and end to an amazing era of grain production.
