Mouthy

After yesterday's bee I had hoped to blip something other than a macro today, but the only things to have presented themselves as possible images have been flies.

This guy was having a feed on my neighbour's shrubs. I was taken with the weird shape of his mouth - which may or may not be called the labium (very weak recollections from high school science of the mouth parts of sponging insects) - and their compound eyes always fascinate me. Considering how much we 'dislike' flies, they are pretty amazing to look at up close.

Definitely best seen in greater detail.
