Common Brown Butterfly

A really interesting blip day today.

Thursday is shopping day, so we usually get to have lunch out at Mitcham Shopping Centre, which is always nice, and I can leave the Rower parked while I nip off and visit the supermarket, the greengrocers, the yoghurt shop - you get the picture. He is quite happy sitting in the food area answering his blip mail, and guarding an ever growing pile of shopping bags. (One day I'm going to blip this - just imagine his head slowly disappearing under a mountain of food!).

Then we went to a local park to see what was happening (not a lot), and just on a whim turned into Brownhill Creek.

Bonanza. Butterflies by the hundreds, and we found a pool along the creek which was home to dozens of dragons madly zipping around at the rate of knots. Definitely unblippable for today - but we'll go back early one morning and see what we can find before they really get out there hunting.

To get a general idea of the landscape, have a look at the Rower's Blip.

The Brownhill Creek Recreation Park is a popular bushland recreation area and only 8 km from Adelaide.

The park's narrow creek, flowing through a steep sided valley with majestic river red gums, (some more than 300 years old), was once a favourite camping, hunting and gathering ground for the Kaurna Aboriginal people.

The area was also known for its agriculture, market gardening and quarrying industries. Concrete pits were used to store horse manure for the market gardens while stone quarries provided sandstone and slate for buildings. Remnants of these pits and a colonial keystone arch bridge can be found in the park.
