Thursday 12 February 2009: Arctic
Headed south for a few days.
As is always wise when traveling in the North of Scotland midwinter we made sure we packed the Snow kit - sleeping bags, flasks of hot drinks, snow shovel, emergency chocolate and enough warm clothing to make sure that no -one could say we weren't prepared for a night in a snowdrift.
It wasn't needed, the weather was wonderful and Caithness had it's best Arctic tundra clothes on. Glorious sunshine, blinding snow and an expanse of emptyness that you either love or are bewildered by.
Roads were clear all the way to Inverness, mainly due to the scurrying snowploughs and gritters. Those folk do a grand job.
