The Edge of the Wold

Gold coast

The plan had been to go into the Lakes today for a short walk and a raid on the outdoor gear shops of Ambleside, but in the end we both felt that it was too lovely a day not to stay at home and go for a local walk. So we packed a flask of hot chocolate and walked to Blackstone Point to see the sun set just off the tip of Humphrey Head's nose. It's always the layer upon layer of mudcake that draws me back to this view into Morecambe Bay. From here there are only a few weeks of the year when the sun sets in the sea rather than behind land, though today as so often, the bank of cloud in the Irish Sea swallowed the sun.

Most of my Bay layer shots have been in portrait format, and Rainie always says she would like to see it in landscape, so here it is. There was a debate with the blip consultant whether to post this view of a gull flying past. It's a rare day when I don't go with her recommendation, this is one of them.
