As the sun goes down;Langfelder Vilmos in Budapest

This bust of Vilmos Langfelder caught my eye down Andrassy út in Budapest. He was born 100 years ago and I know little of him other than the fact that his name will forever be associated with that of Raoul Wallenberg, the Swedish envoy who worked here in Budapest during the war. Langfelder helpe Wallenberg save many people during the Second World War and is said to have perished in a Soviet prison.
I always feel challenged by the task photographing a statue or bust poses. It is after all someone else's creation and I believe that for any good photographer it should not be enough to reproduce a work of art but, if possible, we should try and show a special side of it.. to get right inside the subject. In this case I found the Hungarian letters interesting. This particular bust is impressive and was done by Czinder Antal, a well-known Hungarian artist. I have tried photographing other statues here and here The words on the plate state that Langfelder lived in this house and was a direct colleague of Wallenberg. It also says he died in a Russian prison during the Stalinist terror. The exact fate of Wallenberg remains uncertain though he too ended up in Moscow in the same prison.
