afterthoughts

By afterthoughts

Margit Híd, Budapest

Along the Danube today a mist that muffled everything. Even the sound of the trams winding their way across Margit Hid seemed quieter. One could barely see the dark water below and parliament was, for the first time since ever I set eyes on it, completely invisible. Adieu democracy and all sense of purposeful government! Who knows what the new year will bring?

Ordinary citizens stick to their daily routines, of course, such as walking the dogs from Pest to Buda, stopping off on Margit Island along the way. I was tempted to entitle this "Would you for Heaven's sake hurry up!" but resisted.
