SANDNESS

Driving northwards we passed Lea Gardens to see only despondent birders and stopped for a while. But then the local owl hunter came down the track with the dreaded news of "No Owl". We continued north and across the moors to Sandness at the end of the road. The weather, apart from a biting east wind was gloriously sunny.

Heading back later the report came in that the Owl had been found on Unst! Needless to say, there were no cars parked at Lea Gardens!

The ferry back to Aberdeen that evening had very few passengers, but the ones who caught it with seconds to spare were a merry group of ten or so. We had a very good evening in their company, with Owl stories to tell!

Extras: Paint my wagon
             Moorland fire
Docked at Lerwick for the day, my worst nightmare holiday
