Jakarta history museum

Had a bit of a lie in this morning before going down to breakfast. Headed out to the old town today to go to the Jakarta history museum. There are roadblock in place still outside the hotel for the riots that have been going on so we had to take the long way around to get there. OK museum all about how bad the Dutch were when they invaded. After that we went to the Wayang puppet museum. It was OK but nothing too special. Lots of puppets as you would expect. From there we had a short walk and risked our lives crossing the road to go the Indonesian Bank museum. Nothing stops for pedestrian crossings, you just have to use the power of the hand, walk out and keep a local between you and the traffic.  The museum was OK but nothing special. Another road crossing to go back to the main square for lunch at the second oldest building in Jakarta now Café Batavia. Nice local food. Managed to flag down a cab to take us back to the hotel, which took over an hour in the traffic. Headed out to meet up with SA friends who live here for drinks. They have been really helpful with restaurant ideas and tips on getting around. Nice couple who have been living here for 5 years or so. They were good enough to drop us at our restaurant called Kaum, which is a modern Indonesian restaurant. Very nice food and eat far too much with a nice cocktail. Back to the hotel for an early night.
