A peaceful day

Drizzle prevented our usual Christmas day apéritifs in the garden, replaced by a short walk around the village before a lunch which lasted for several hours until dark: clams, foie gras, gambas with pastis, sea bass (especially for E who doesn't eat meat), roast pigeons with stuffed artichokes, roast potatoes and pumpkin, Roquefort and this clementine and almond syrup cake, various wines, of course. Phone calls to family in London and Wales completed a happy day.

For the cake I followed a recipe from Ottolenghi and Tamimi's Jerusalem and served it on this Palestinian plate, wishing for peace between peoples who share so much geographically and culturally.
