Was It Really So Long Ago

180 Degrees of Vegetation

This is a panorama shot of 'the field' in Surrey, the remainder of around 4 acres originally bought by my grandfather a long time ago.

He put it to a number of uses over the years, including allotments and tennis, but sold the majority of the land some 20-30 years ago when it became apparent that planning permission would not be forthcoming in this green belt area.  Just in case the council were to change their minds, he retained something under an acre. They didn't and were it not for an error made by a solicitor about 15 years ago, even this would have been sold. The solicitor put forward a price which was a factor of 10 out, thus putting off the potential buyer when news broke that he'd have to dig a lot deeper into his pockets.

Sadly both grandparents have since passed on. Consequently I am now the proud owner of 'the field'    as it has always been known. A lack of grass cutting in the last 20 years has lead to a mixture of Norway Spruce, Oak, Ash and Hawthorn moving in amongst a good thick under storey of blackthorn.

As we have been spending the last few days south of the Thames, today was a good opportunity to make a visit.

The wood burner will be well fed.
