The Backwaters

There is a lot of water in Kerala .. (mind you I think that the UK is catching up fast and we are thinking about you all with all the flooding) ... We had a freak storm here last night .. torrential rain almost cyclonic (they did have a cyclone on the other side of the country in Tamil Nadu) .. heaven knows how our neighbours in their shacks cope with it all .. PaulaJ did say she would wish us rain given the intense dryness that we have had here.. Given that astonishing success I have asked her now to wish for unlimited wealth for me!!! Another storm is forecast for tonight.

Anyway this is a glimpse of the backwaters .. for which Kerala is famous and the strange wicker boats that are used to sail on them (I will blip some pictures of them before long) .. we stay on Vypin Island which is a thin strip of land with the Arabian Sea on one side and the backwaters on the other .. It is a high risk area for Tsunamis as you might imagine ... and some think that the whole area will be underwater in a few years time .. even more reason to value our time here
