Divided street

A Sunday morning view of my One street from the other direction to my earlier shots. The weather is strange, alternating between warm sunshine and mild grey. Some landmarks: on the left is the Caveau des Pascales, where we buy wine and where my exhibition was held last summer, and the much-photographed Dubonnet advert is in the centre of the village with just one old man sitting in the bus shelter this morning.

Balancing

At the rising
from the low point
of the solstice, days lengthen
by a cockerel's foot,
a full moon brightened the night
and this morning seems balanced:
a line divides the street, unlit words
joyeuses fêtes string its width,
tarmac glistens early rain,
against a backdrop of darkness
the sun pours sepia
on the last high leaves.
