Historical Williamsburg, Va.

Today we went to historical Williamsburg.  There was and is, a city of Williamsburg before the Revolutionary War.  The area is right near the Yorktown Battlefield, it's proximity to a deep seaport made it an area that was fought over during the War.  The Main Blip is of the palace, before the revolution.  The King's Governor lived here, in high fashion implementing taxes and restrictions.  The colonies were viewed by the aristocracy of the British, as a source of additional funds to sustain their life style and businesses.
Today, it is a complete city that has been preserved in it's original, historical form.  The decision was made to preserve the city as at one town it was the capital of Virginia.  With the help of the Rockefeller's Foundation and several millions of dollars, the city was bought up,  88 of the existing building are the original pre war building and 100 something buildings have been rebuilt, and multiple buildings were refurbished to the old standards.
It is a huge place....   We saw only 1/4 of of the city.
In the Extras:  The mode of transportation around the city is carriage, or by foot.    2: the top of the Court House.  The King and Queens seal, on the top, is poly leafed, as was custom at the time.  3: The buildings down main street were beautiful.  In each business there were representatives of the time, discussing how business was conducted, how the foundry worked, how the silversmith made Teapots, silverware, sugar cups, etc..... how they made molds, pounded out details......    fascinating!
4: A mercantile sign in front of the stool, a piggery demonstrating how the were made, what they stood for, shaved heads and status.....
5: The farmers market, which was open today.  All the wares, vegetables, cloth, etc, were made in Williamsburg.
