Summer sports versus flooding!!!

What a contrast this is.....summer water sking with a background of massive flooding. Because of the huge amount of rain on the Main Divide (about half a metre or more) over the last week has resulted in our lakes filling up dramatically. It has become necessary to release quantities of water over the spillways - today we went up the Waitaki River Valley where there are three dams, Benmore, Avimore and Waitaki. This one is of the Benmore, dam built in the early 1960's. We have enjoyed lots of camping in these area over the summers, and water skied many times in Loch Laird shown here.

Foggy and misty (Irish mizzle) here on the coast, but improved as we headed inland.

You may want to see more of the flooding close up, take a look in my blog. I also loaded our trip to the wetlands a couple of days ago too. It will show below the flooding images. I thank those that offered help in opening the images.....downloaded Chrome and worked a treat. Brilliant.
