Tae a Moose

Never thought of Mickey Mouse as a Wee, sleekit, cow'rin, tim'rous beastie and certainly this plough/mouse/scul?ture doesn't suggest he is but it's another favourite with the pupils, and something about it brings Robert Burns, the Ploughman to their minds.

At the end of this month, we'll be running special school visits to the exhibition as pupils celebrate the poetry of Burns. He is one of the four people we chose to include on the website as being a significant influence on Wyllie's work, and the exhibition has Wyllie's Survival Kit on display. We've been talking to the pupils about a quotation from Burns that George Wyllie included in several pieces of his work...

'Whatever mitigates the woes or increases the happiness of others, this is my criterion of goodness; and whatever injures society at large, or any individual in it, this is my measure of iniquity'.
Robert Burns

An excellent starting point for responsible citizens to consider.

So, although it's only 10th January, we're starting to get ready for the Burns related school visits and Mickey, the plough/scul?ture/mouse is going to be part if, stone cheese as well...
