Cicada

Went to our forest block up the hill this morning to see what I could find for my blip photo today. We came across this wee Cicada - a pretty little thing with lovely red edging around its wings. You can even see the hairs on its back.

The most distinctive feature of cicadas is their ability to sing, and they were certainly singing amongst the trees. During the peak of summer their massed chorus can be deafening. Only the males sing, mainly to court females.

Many thanks for everyone comments, stars & heart on yesterday's photo of 'Betty'. Betty was thrilled, and gave us an extra litre of milk this morning!
