The second half of life..

Sir Elton

Absolutely nothing but rain, rain and more rain.  I didn't leave the van at all until it was time to gather up the neighbours who were sharing the taxi I'd booked to the Forsyth Barr Stadium venue at 5.00 pm.  Even then, and despite our taxi driver having excellent local know-how and managing to get us to within a hundred or so meters of our entry gate, we were still pretty wet by the time we actually got into the stadium.
Elton was fantastic - a real showman, fantastic music, wonderful story snippets about his life, learnings and creative process, amazing band and engrossing backdrops to the set.  Being his farewell tour he did, of course, sing a lot of his older, popular songs, but there was a great range of lesser known ballads too.  Given he is 72 years old he still managed to produce an incredible amount of energy and enthusiasm throughout the three continuous hours he performed.  I loved every moment of it.

By the time we met up again at the end of the concert the rain had eased......slightly.  Sadly, the taxi I had ordered to pick us up never arrived and we ended up walking the 2.5 kms back to the park.  We were all utterly soaked by the time we got back but also still buzzing from the concert.  A cuppa with my neighbours then back to my van (that looked like a laundry drying room!) and into bed, tired and still a bit cold but very happy.
