Lakes Line

One of the pleasures of the last few weeks has been discovering places that have been under my nose for years but which I’ve failed to notice. Today was a case in point, walking past Birk Hagg and over the railway. The Lakes Line runs from Oxenholme to Windermere and its closure last year because of the joint incompetence of Northern Rail and Network Rail starved the Lakes of at least some of the visitors that might have been expected. Now the service has been renationalised, but still isn’t carrying any visitors because there aren’t any.
