Part of my conservation team

Called in to check the southern part of the nature reserve on my way back from London today. Here are my two trusty conservation workers who have been grazing the old chalk pits since before Christmas. They are a New Forest pony (the inquisitive one) and an Exmoor pony (more aloof). Despite a slight problem with different dialects they seem to be great pals. The area where this photo is taken will have hundreds of plants of the rare Chiltern gentian (Gentianella germanica) flowering in late summer, helped by these guys.
