Sodden wood

This is the beech wood where I was checking ferns and mosses this afternoon. The rain was relentless - every old beech tree had rivulets of water streaming down the trunk and this lane, an ancient hollow way cut through the Chiltern escarpment, was more like a river at times. After about an hour, the water was running down my neck and I called it a day and went back to sorting all my 2013 wildlife records on the computer...in the warm, with a cat curled at my feet!
