Snow, Wine, Chocolate

Day 1 of Not Being in Leeds:

03:30 - wake up, realise it's snowed.
04:30 - taxi arrives bang on time
05:30 - arrive at airport fine, despite snow on motorway
09:00 - having boarded on time, the pilot announces that due to the snow, the airport has now shut and will remain so until about 10:30
10:12 - doors shut, announcement comes on about airport being reopened and we're just waiting for a de-icer
13:10 - de-icer finally arrives
13:30 - we finally take off
17:10 - touchdown at Funchal
18:30 - get into rooms
19:00 - restorative wine

So - 4.5hours sat on a Thomson plane at Manchester airport. Not the best start to the holiday especially when we were offered nothing except for one glass of water whilst we waited.

When we finally took off, we got a free drink, still had to pay for food but that was largely irrelevant as by the time they got to us, the hot food had run out.

Anyhoo. All forgotten as soon as we arrived.

It was chocolate and Madeira wine week so the hotel had lots of chocolate scultures around the place and free tastings of chocolate each night :-)
