Carb-loading

Team Chipmunk finally realized that Team Great Golden Digger Wasp is outperforming them every step of the way in the pre-game Burrowing trials.  Team Leader Spunky immediately began carb-loading as she's heard that this can help performance.  We'll see.  This judge is skeptical.  Fortunately, the buffet is next to the bar so if all else fails...

Another very hot day - 94 F/34.4C.  No matter how you cut it, that is just plain HOT.  I had to drag the hose around (yea, that was fun) and water some of my flowers as even the drought resistant native plants are looking pretty peaky at the moment.  Tomorrow I will probably put a sprinkler on the big pollinator garden to give it a good soak.  

The BIG news of the day is that my bestie, Kura, is going to rent a car and come out for a visit this Friday.  And she's going to stay overnight!  We've been super careful since everything went into lockdown in March so I feel totally safe having her stay here.  And, unlike a few months ago, she's coming from NYC which is one of the most virus-free places in the US now.  We probably won't do hugs, but at least we can be in the same room, drink wine, enjoy a good meal and act like we haven't been living in the next installment of The Hunger Games.

I look around the world and what I see is really horrifying.  Places that were doing well a month or so ago are soaring in new cases again.  It should serve as a reminder to all of us not to take our eyes off the ball, not even for a minute.  Wear a mask.  Wash your hands often and thoroughly.  Maintain safe social distance. And be kind.  And loving...
