Friday 27 March 2009: Discovery

A shot of Orion from my back garden in Bath at about 20.28pm this evening (UK time).

Now look more closely...

The very faint line that you can see coming from around Orion's belt (heading slightly up and towards the left of the picture) is the track of either the Space Shuttle Discovery or the International Space Station. The two undocked on Wednesday after 8 days in space, with the Space Shuttle now heading back towards Florida. I saw both go across the sky tonight but only managed to catch part of the second one (because I was faffing about with my camera settings). I don't know which of the two came first. Whichever... the track shown here represents 30 seconds of its flight.

Cool huh?
