If August Sander were taking his pictures now, it is likely that rather than using the subject's profession as the title of the portrait, he'd instead use their hobby.
For example, Alan here is a 'Mountain Biker'. In the 1930s he would have been a 'Software Engineer' (obviously not software, but whatever the equivalent was). These days we are more likely to be defined by our passtimes...
