Masked Lapwing

Adult Vanellus miles novaehollandiae, formerly known as spurwing plover.

This is one of the parents of the young bird I blipped yesterday. The couple are raising two chicks this season. Their nesting place is on an open part of the field over my back fence. They usually keep close to their territory, but a crop has been sown in the field, creating a very different type of environment from what they are used to. I think this is why they have ventured closer than they normally do. This morning they were less than 20 metres away.
