The Theatre of Electricity

<back blip>

We had a GREAT day out.

It started off with a tour of Boston on a DUKW - a WWII millitary vehicle that works as a truck or a boat! Then we went round the science museum. It was filled with fascinating exhibits, but the highlight for me was the Theatre of Electricity, where they created the worlds largest artifcial lightening show before our very eyes. Incredible. Next we headed over to the iMax Dome theatre in the museum, which is distinguished from standard iMax by having a huge wrap-around screen with an image so large you are completely immersed - it even feeds your peripheral vision. The film was on adrenaline-seeking skydivers and base-jumpers. It was incredible to share their crazy view of the world for a few minutes, and nice to see the Florida Keys where I was last week - that's where many of the jumps took place.

Finally we had dinner (another lovely Italian in the North End) and a few beers. Oh, and for the second night running I ended up having a wee nightcap in the common room afterwards.

There are loads more photos from our day out here if anyone is interested.

Getting back to the campus was a little fun as it has been closed down and partially sealed off after an outbreak of Norovirus, a winter vomiting bug... So we're kind of stuck here for the next few days with cancelled classes and most of the facilities shut down. It will be interesting to see how that plays out...
