On the way to Market

How lucky we are to live somewhere we can walk to a Saturday Market, or a Sunday Market as the notion takes us.

This whole food supply chain scandal keeps going. I read both sides of the argument, but can't work out what to actually do to make a difference. If buying food directly means we can shorten the food chain and find out more about provenance, then that's what we were doing today. On the other hand, yesterday I drove all over the place looking for ingredients to make a recipe which my dear husband had discovered, and ended up in a supermarket buying some chicken as all the butchers were shut by the time I got the text message about the need for the ingredients.

If the entire population of Edinburgh had ended up at Stockbridge Market looking to buy their evening meal then it definitely wouldn't have worked. Is there some middle ground which will allow us to buy food on trust that it is what it says it is?

Confused consumer.
