The Life Of Ponty Cyclops

Muntjac Deer - Pensthorpe

Another cracking but this time freezing day. The bright sunshine had gone and the blanket grey skies returned, but it didn't stop us having another wonderful day on a nature reserve.

We met up with our good friend Bev down there. We hadn't realised it was a fairly easy run down to North Norfolk from here. It took us just about an hour and a half, and when you think I will drive an hour and half to Slimbridge from home, it's no real hardship.

As I said it was freezing cold, but it didn't stop us having a right laugh, an taking in some wonderful wildlife there. We saw our second Barn Owl of the week from the old Springwatch Scrape hide. The real highlight of the day was when we stumbled across the bird feeder hide. I have never seen so many birds coming and going in one place before. There were about fifty Chaffinches, Siskins, Treecreepers, Robins and Greenfinches all flitting around. The next we thing we know Dawn utters a "Oh My God!" and we wondered what she had seen. There in the middle of the clearing was this lovely Muntjac Deer. It was almost Disney like the scene before us!

The day was over before we really thought it had began, and soon it was time to say goodbye. It was great seeing Bev again, and we will most definitely be doing this again!

I have edited sixteen photos from the day and put them up on Flickr .. if you want a look, then all you need do is click this link to get there.

Bevs rather splendid photo of the deer can also be found on blip, and her take on the day.
