Watten

An area in Caithness.
This is a ruin near our survey site today. The landscape here , the Flow Country, is characterised by miles of gently undulating continuous peat moorland. A few years ago I had several sections of water main survey work stretching from here west as far as Tongue with a couple of short stretches down Strathnaver and Strathhalladale.
As far as I know you don't get stonework like this anywhere else in Scotland. The stone seems to occur naturally in slabs and there is a big quarry along the road from here still extracting the product.
There was more driving than survey hours today.
