Il Tricolore

Today's the day ......................... to fly the flag

This flag has been flying here for almost three weeks now - since the 8th May, to be precise - because we have been following with great interest, the Giro d'Italia  Cycle Race.

There are many aficionados who will tell you the the Giro is the greatest test a cyclist can face, with the stages regularly being longer, higher and very often colder than those at the Tour de France, its better known and slightly older cousin.  It's the opening 'Grand Tour' of the cycling season and comprises 21 stages raced over 3,450kms - or 2,144 miles in old money.  We've certainly been enjoying it over the weeks, not least because you get to see some incredible Italian scenery.

It will all end tomorrow with a final Time Trial - and then, without doubt, we will miss our daily dose of Italian cycling.  Well - until the next 'Grand Tour' comes along .......................
