Our holiday home

It's quite a nice holiday park we're on. The houses look cute. This one is ours. Today we spent the day here. To relax. I finished my second book. The first one a Dutch young adult book. Very interesting. Situated in the war in London. Where people spent the nights in the tunnels of the metro during the bombardments.

The second an adult Norwegian book. Though told from the perspective of an 11 year old boy early in the 1960s. He and his mother spent more than a year with a lodger (for extra income) and the boy's half-sister, delivered by her alcoholic mother. The boy takes care of his sister, defends her when other people say she's not normal. Life in general gets a bit better financially, day by day, as it was for a lot of people in those days. There is something off with the sister. The diagnosis that comes to mind is something not common in those days. There is something off with the lodger, with angry outbursts. There is something off with his mother's family. It certainly is an intriguing book. The Dutch translation is Wonderkinderen. The author is Roy Jacobsen. Translated into English as Child wonder.
