This morning I drove down to Longsands College at St. Neots with Ben, Dave and Niall. Niall and Ben will be taking exams there this summer, and the exam co-ordinator had invited us to have a look around so that it wasn't too daunting on exam day. Everyone was very helpful, but the school was huge (2000 pupils) and rambling, predominantly dating from the 1960's and really in need of refurbishment, but the current government took away the money. Fortunately she re-assured us that external candidates are escorted to and from the exam rooms, and are not placed in the sports hall which can hold 400 pupils!Ben was a bit daunted by the number of people around, but I hope that this year he'll be better prepared and not find the whole experience as devastating as his last exam.

Late in the afternoon Pete and I took Rosie for a bracing walk round Ferry meadows. There are still large numbers of redwing around, but most of the wigeon seem to have left now, though whether they've just moved locally or are finally returning to their breeding grounds is anyone's guess. This heron was standing at the edge of one of the lakes and, as we approached, flapped away in a leisurely manner .
