I had a a finger-tingling walk in the frost this morning. Ferry Meadows was looking beautifully wintry - so good to see the sun after so many gloomy days. Wildlife highlights of the visit were a Treecreeper investigating the old riverside willows and Coots diving for mussels, with a predatory Black-headed Gull trying to steal their finds, as well as some botanical heiroglyphics created by dying Reed Sweet-grass.

The afternoon was spent making mince pies, and in the evening Alex and I braved Waitrose, which was actually not too busy. We managed to get nearly everything on our list so for the first time for years I won't have to go shopping on Christmas Eve!
