Famous fish'n'chips

Fresh Aussie Tiger Prawns at $28 a kilo top the blackboard today, followed by Fresh Local Clyde River Oysters and (here's a recent addition) Fresh Sushi. But it's fish of many kinds and chips that has made the Boatshed in Batemans Bay a favourite for seafoodies from near and far for more than 50 years.

The Boatshed has been in the Innes family for all that time, and it's not too long ago - until the creation of the Batemans Marine Park and a ban on commercial fishing - that the menfolk brought in the day's catch in their own boats. They still take out groups on their charter boat for recreational fishing, and once a day sail a pleasure-cruiser up the Clyde River to Nelligen and back.

The Inneses have maintained the building in its historic condition and, with the Bay community, have fended off more than one takeover attempt by developers. If you ever drop by, you can "eat in or take away". Should you opt to take a table on the back deck, lean over the rail and you stand a good chance of seeing the stingrays that have made their home in the waters below.
